Climbing Hidden Peak (Gasherbrum I).

Although published in 1982, Nick Clinch wrote this book in the summer of 1959, just after the successful 1958 American expedition to Hidden Peak, which scored the only American-led first ascent of an 8,000-meter peak in history. After an initial rejection from publishers, Clinch put the manuscript away and went on with his life, becoming president of the American Alpine Club, executive director of the Sierra Club, and participating in a number more climbing expeditions to the greater ranges.

Despite the decades from conception to publication, Clinch did not re-write the book from a 'modern' POV, feeling that would ruin it. In the preface, Clinch writes: "I hope you understand some of the feeling we had, as wearing our cowboy hats and whistling the theme from 'The Bridge on the River Kwai', we went walking into the Karakoram."

Hardcover, excellent condition with complete, unblemished dust jacket (not clipped, but no price printed). 214 pages, with an insert of color photos in the middle and b&w throughout.
