Klucker was a Swiss alpine guide, active in the late 1800s and early 1900s. During this time period, written accounts of mountaineering were mostly from the point of view of the noble clients. This volume shows the point of view of the guide, which discretion and professional ethics generally kept to the margins of the conversation.
Klucker died unexpectedly before he could finish this book, so although it is mostly his words, editors and translators do intervene from time to time, drawing from Klucker's letters and those of his companions, clients, and friends.
