Heroic conquest of the highest mountain - 26,493 ft - ever climbed by man.

The first ascent of an 8,000-meter peak. This was one of the most popular mountaineering books of all time; it sold double-digit millions of copies. It describes the 1950 French expedition to Annapurna, the first successful summit of an 8,000-meter peak. Author Maurice Herzog made the summit but lost most of his fingers to frostbite (making it all the more impressive he signed these books).

These are first edition US hardcover copies of Annapurna signed by author Maurice Herzog. I have many; your copy may not exactly match the photo. But I can guarantee it'll be a first US edition (could be a later printing), with a dust jacket in a vinyl brodart. All copies are signed by Herzog on the title page in pen.

316 pages, photographic plates throughout (mostly b&w, a few colorized), and a fold-out panorama and map in the back.
