A notoriously private figure throughout his life, Polish mountaineer Voytek Kurtyka finally agreed to participate in this biography from reknowned mountain historian Bernadette McDonald. Kurtyka was a recurring character in the Himalayas during the 1970s and 1980s, when he and his countrymen made daring expeditions with impressive regularity - many deadly.
When asked about ranking climbs and climbers of different styles, Kurtyka once said "It makes as much sense as ranking which is better: sex or Christmas". But by any metric, this guy was one of the best of all time. This book will give you an appreciation of just how undeniable that fact is.
Hardcover, first edition with complete dustjacket in protective mylar. 326 pages with four inserts of color photos.
