This book describes the 1933 British expedition to Everest, which attempted the mountain from the North, via Tibet. This expedition included including Eric Shipton and F.S. Smythe, and ultimately did no reach the summit, although they recovered the ice axe of Andrew Irving, who had perished on an earlier expedition, and set a record for oxygen-less altitude which stood for almost 50 years.

First edition hardcover, ex-library, no dj. 339 pages.  Boards and spine have wear, but the binding is sound. 3D glasses are not present (yes, this book includes a 3D photo of Everest taken from Base Camp!) Includes dozens of photographic plates. Very mild foxing and toning to top edge of text block.
