The author was the former president of the Alpine CLub (UK) and the Royal Geographical Society. He describes the book in the preface:

"The following selections from old records of travel may, I hope, convey to a few kindred spirits suggestions of alternative playgrounds near and far off, accessible at times when the high Alps are practically closed. They include some subalpine wanderings under the shadow of Mont Blanc and the Bernina, and two raids into the remote wilds of Japan and Uganda. But for the most part, they are a bundle of memories of walks, and Climbs among the lesser rangers of the old world, among the mountains of the Riviera, Corsica, Italy, Greece, Bosnia, and Algeria."

Hardcover book without dust jacket, good condition. 270 pages, with index. Some maps but no photographs. With two old bookseller stickers, bookplate from American Alpine Club Library and pencil notations from librarian on front end-paper, but no other library stamps or labels.
