Downward Bound: A Mad! Guide to Rock Climbing by Warren "BATSO" Harding (1990)
Downward Bound: A Mad! Guide to Rock Climbing by Warren "BATSO" Harding (1990)
Shit-talking book. This book has a real style to it, starting with the drawings and continuing to the writing, which has a lot more personality than your standard climbing book. Harding lampoons the climbing culture of the day and describes his two famous climbs: the Nose and The Wall of Early Morning Light (The Dawn Wall) on El Capitan. The book closes with a farcical appendix describing the climbers of the day.
This copy is the 1990 Menasha Ridge Press Climbing Classics Series reprint. It is in excellent condition, with a much more durable soft plastic binding when compared to the first printing. All photographs, text, and illustrations inside are the same (I compared both the original and this reprint side-by-side). 197 pages, black-and-white, with photos and cartoons throughout.
