An epic story of survival.

A classic tale of the early days of mountaineering, this book describes the 1937 first ascent of Mount Lucania, on the border of Alaska and the Yukon Territory, by Brad Washburn and Bob Bates. More notable than the summit was their "escape" — warm temperatures had turned the glacier to slush and prevented their pilot from returning to pick up the pair of climbers. Washburn and Bates, on dwindling supplies and headed into literal blanks on their map, were forced to make an escape on foot through the rugged Canadian wilderness.

Hardcover book, 206 pages, with index and one insert of b&w photographs.
