Large coffee-table format first-edition copies of Everest: The West Ridge. All copies I have are signed by both Tom Hornbein and Jim Whittaker.
This book tells the story of the 1963 American Expedition to Everest, which put Jim Whittaker on the summit via the now-standard South Col route, and Tom Hornbein and Willi Unsoeld on top via the brand-new and rarely repeated West Ridge route.
This first edition copy from the Sierra Club is handsomely illustrated with large, full-color photographic plates, some of which were never reproduced in later editions.
I have ten copies. All are signed by both Whittaker and Hornbein. The pictured dust jacket is the one in the worst condition. The book measures 10.5"x14" and weighs 4lbs 6 oz.
