This book focuses on the history of California climbing and climbers in the 1950s. In the introduction, Fitschen compares his book to Roper's Camp 4, another early Yosemite history book. He says Cam4 was was both "broader and narrower in scope than what I had in mind."
That's because this book is quite focused on the 1950s time period, goes beyond the confines of Yosemite Valley to the desert southwest; and also examines the personal lives and experience of these characters beyond a list of their climbs.
