Kingdom of Adventure: Everest by James Ramsey Ullman (1947)
A chronicle of man's assault on the Earth's highest mountain, narrated by the participants & with an accompanying text by James Ramsey Ullman.
Published in 1947, this is the epic history of the as-of-then undefeated Mount Everest. Although us serious climbers may now consider Mount Everest passé, for many decades it was a fierce and formidable opponent, worthy of respect, research, and anticipation.
This book excerpts some of the more rare and famous Everest literature, and describes the various national expeditions against the mountain.
Conveys the spirit of the time in a way that many other sources will not.
Hardcover book, seen better days. 411 pages with b&w photographic plates throughout. Some damage to boards- looks like jacket was glued on at some point. Jacket is now in a mylar brodart sleeve, weathered but mainly intact.
