Left For Dead by Beck Weathers (2000)
My Journey Home From Everest. Co-authored by Stephen G. Michaud.
Beck Weathers was a character in the 1996 Everest Disaster (as made famous by Jon Krakauer's book Into Thin Air). You'll be familiar with his story if you read Into Thin Air: the braggadocious Texan who was left for dead overnight in the storm, but miraculously woke up and stumbled back into camp the next day.
Despite avoiding death, Weathers suffered extreme cold injury - he lost his nose, a hand, all the fingers on his other hand, and parts of both his feet to frostbite.
This book tells Weathers' story, including his grueling recovery, in more detail than the other accounts of the disaster.
Hardcover first edition. 292 pages, a few small B&W photos but mostly text.
