Mount Everest Massiv 2: Himalajaführer w/ letter to John Roskelley
Mount Everest Massiv 2: Himalajaführer w/ letter to John Roskelley
This is a small pamphlet-style guidebook to alpine climbing on and around Mount Everest. Published 1988. It was written by Polish climber Jan Kielkowski, but this version is published in the German language. 60 pages.
What makes this piece cool is its provenance: tucked inside the pamphlet is a letter from Kielkowski to American alpinist John Roskelley, introducing the pamphlet and asking Roskelley for information and contact info to help Kielkowski write the next guide in the series. It is a piece of history and a representation of how the worldwide climbing fraternity collaborated in a time when the internet was just barely nascent.
You can read the letter for free (see images), if you want to hold it in your hands, it'll cost you.
