Vintage hardcover without dust jacket of this mountaineering classic.

Shipton's Nanda Devi describes the reconnaissance he and H.W. Tillman made into the Nana Devi Sanctuary, in the Himalya. Although the summit of the mountain (7,816 meters) was not made on the expedition described in this book, Tillman returned in 1936 and claimed the summit. Nanda Devi stood as the highest point ever reached by man for 14 years, until the French stood on top of Annapurna, the first 8000er, in 1950.

This is a third edition from Hodder and Stoughton, some wear, but in perfectly good shape with strong binding and hinge, ready to be read again. 284 pages, with an aerial map of the region sketched on the front endpapers, and a few illustrative sketches throughout. No photographs.
