Savage Arena by Joe Tasker (1982)
Savage Arena by Joe Tasker (1982)
Joe Tasker's second book, published in 1982, the same year he and Peter Boardman went missing on the East-Northeast ridge of Everest.
The pair had a strong climbing partnership and each was a strong writer. After their deaths this book and several others were anthologized in the Boardman-Tasker Omnibus, and the Boardman-Tasker Prize for Mountain Literature was established in their honor. Every year the Boardman-Tasker Prize is awarded to the best mountain writing.
This book describes climbs of the Eiger North Face in winter, Changabang, the North Ridge of Kangchenjunga, and two unsuccessful attempts against K2.
Hardcover, 270 pages with a chronology of climbs and an index in the back. Black-and-white photographs throughout. These are British 1st editions but third and fourth printings.
