Starlight and Storm by Gaston Rebuffat (1956)

The Ascent of the Six Great North Faces of the Alps. This is one of the classics of mountaineering literature, and for good reason: Rebuffat writes romantically and emotionally about the mountains, in a style that far exceeds the typical play-by-play descriptions most climbers give. He captures the feeling and significance of these moments, almost underplaying the difficulty of climbing alpine North faces in the fucking 1940s.

This book is a personal favorite of mine.

Two copies available. These are first English editions, printed in the UK in translation from the original French. 1956, from J.M. Dent & Sons. Dust jackets are generally complete but with some small chips missing.
