This was a short-lived relaunch of Summit under the editorial leadership of John Harlin III. The update brought Summit more into the "modern era" of 1990s glossy magazines, as well as broadening the focus to cover the mountains in all aspects, instead of focusing solely on climbing. The magazine made it about five years in this format, before shuttering again in 1996, to lay dormant until 2024, when Michael Levy relaunched the title once again.
