A new chapter in mountaineering history — the conquest of Mount Waddington.
From 1926 onwards, Don Munday, the Canadian mountaineer, usually accompanied by his wife, made yearly trips into in search of a peak he had spotted from afar, dubbed "Mystery Mountain". This book tells the story of Munday's many reconnaissances into the dense Coastal Range of British Columbia — some of North America's least-known and most-rugged mountains. The Mundays succeeded in making the first ascent of the Northwest summit of Mystery Mountain (later to be known as Mount Waddington) in 1928, but deemed the main, higher summit, too dangerous. Fritz Weissner and Bill House made the official first ascent of the main summit in 1936.
This is a first-edition, first printing of one of mountaineering's remarkable stories. The dust jacket is complete, near-fine, with some soiling but no tears or chips missing. The book itself has a slight slant to the spine and pretty bad sun-bleaching to the spine and tops of the boards. But overall the presentation is very nice - looks better than most books of this vintage.
