Don Whillans was part of the Joe Brown generation of British climbers - working class lads who turned climbing in England from an aristocratic pursuit to an everyman's. Whillans became known for his temper and his attitude as much as his climbing ability - which was prodigious, including great ascents at home and in the Himalaya.

This biography of Whillans is highly-regarded, and frequently cited as one of the best climbing books, both due to the complex subject and the author's literary skills. It won the Boardman-Tasker Prize in 2005 for best mountain book of the year.

Hardcover book, 354 pages with two photographic inserts.
