Conrad Kain was an Austrian mountain guide who put up many of the first ascents in Canada - most notably Mount Robson, via what is today known as the Kain Face. He also climbed in the European Alps and the Southern Alps of New Zealand.
This book was published after his death, being assembled by J. Monroe Thorington, who had traveled and climbed with Kain for six seasons in the Rockies. Thorington would later become president of the American Alpine Club, editor of the AAJ, and publish the first guidebook to the Purcell Range.
Hardcover book in good condition. No dustjacket; seafoam green cloth covering boards. Gold gilt on spine, bumping to one corner. 456 pages with index and 29 b&w photographs sprinkled throughout the text.
