Joe Wilcox led a 1967 expedition to Denali in which the team was pinned down up high by a fierce windstorm, and most of the team members died. The tragedy received extensive media coverage and analysis. Wilcox, who was one of the few survivors, took a dozen years to put the tale to paper from his point of view.
