Anderl Heckmair was a Bavarian mountain guide, most famous for leading the 1938 first ascent of the Eiger North Face - a story grippingly told in his ropemate Heinrich Harrer's classic book The White Spider.
Here Heckmair tells the story in his own words, as well as other adventures across the globe and close to home. Heckmair died in 2005 at age 98.
This is the first UK hardcover, second printing (1978), published by the Gollancz. Book is in very nice shape, appears unread, with only flaw some minor sunbleaching to the top of the spine and boards. The dustjacket is complete, nice and sharp, protected within a mylar Brodart.
