Anderl Heckmair was a Bavarian mountain guide, most famous for leading thne 1938 first ascent of the Eiger North Face - a stopry grippingly told in his ropemate Heinrich Harrer's classic book The White Spider.
Here Heckmair tells the story in his own words, as well as other adventures across the globe and close to home. Heckmair died in 2005 at age 98.
This is the first US hardcover edition, published by the Mountaineers. Corners are slightly bumped but otherwise this book is in excellent condition.
